Learn to sleep like your husband.

Laying next to my husband the other night in bed I stumbled upon the reality that he was quickly falling asleep without going through the list of anxieties and uncertainties that could come along the next day. This was one of those moments in my life that will stick with me forever. Although it sounds silly, I truly believed that if I didn’t worry about the things that were important to me, bad things might happen. I believed every anxious thought was God warning me and giving me a chance to play the potential situation in my head over and over until I found a way to prevent or prepare for the situation at hand. But when I was laying in bed that night I realized that my husband loves our kids as much as I do but he didn’t have to stay up late worrying about them in order for them to be safe and sound the following day. He just went to sleep and woke up. This was mind boggling to me. So God didn’t care that my husband went selfishly to sleep every night without thinking everything through for the next day? The opposite actually. God wants us to sleep like our husbands (not like babies)! And this is how we can:

First, God is in control. “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21

So even if we stay up late contemplating, planning, worrying- we are not in control. 

Second, God loves us. “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” 1 John 4:16 

And third, God wants us to trust Him. Because He has a plan. And it is good.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
